Dr. Friedman has served as an Agreed Medical Examiner in Psychiatry for over 25 years. Since 2004, he has limited his Workers'Compensation practice to Agreed Medical Examinations. His evaluations have been described as "fair" and "honest" by numerous applicant and defense attorneys and his services are in constant demand.
Dr. Friedman has been in full-time clinical practice in West Los Angeles since 1972. He is a Supervising and Training Psychoanalyst at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. He is an innovative clinical researcher and a popular teacher who regularly lectures locally and nationally. Dr. Friedman is the author of three books and numerous papers. He is the past President of the New Center of Psychoanalysis. He has served on numerous committees of the American Psychoanalytic Association and at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. In 1972, Dr. Friedman founded the organization which has grown into the Barrington Center, which he currently directs. He has conducted clinical research on psychotherapy and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. As noted above, his medical-legal practice is confined to the performance of Agreed Medical Examinations in Psychiatry, while he also maintains an active psychoanalytic practice. Dr. Friedman received his M.D. degree with honors from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1966. He interned in straight Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from 1966 to 1967, and completed a residency in psychiatry in 1970 at the University of Southern California - Los Angeles County Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Friedman served as the Assistant Chief of the Depression Section at the National Institute of Mental Health in Washington, D.C. While there, he conducted research on Depressive Disorders and Schizophrenia. In 1978, Dr. Friedman received a Ph.D. from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry (1973), and is also certified in Psychoanalysis by the Board on Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association (1983).
